Promoting Youth Values

As parents we influence many aspects of our children’s lives.  Our own moral values shape what we want our children to believe in and adopt in their own lives.

A strong moral compass will be the foundation for good decision making as our little ones enter adolescence.

In Planting My Values I talk about some of the values that I believe children should conquer on their journeys of self-discovery.

In todays fast-paced society we sometimes fall short in the category of promoting youth values.  Our children are obsessed with technology.  This is wonderful yet can be challenging to parents. We are busy, rushed, stressed. Often we don’t understand the technology that is driving our young ones.

Lets get back to the basics. Our children are our future. A strong value system will help our little ones as they maneuver the world as it is today. Fast and furious- connected yet disconnected. Help your children acquire the value system that you want them to have.

The book will touch on these core values:

  • Manners
  • Empathy
  • Respect
  • Gratitude
  • Courage

  • Kindness
  • Integrity
  • Thoughtfulness

Invite your little ones to have a voice! Let me know what values you feel are important to instill in  your children?

Springtime Gardening

I love spring and all that it represents. From blooming trees and gardens to longer and warmer days it always makes me feel so happy and renewed.

In my award-winning children’s book Planting My Values I talk about planting seeds and watching them grow. It is a wonderful metaphor to use as we look to instill values in our children. From the time they are very young we have the power to plant these seeds in our children’s hearts, nurture, nourish, maintain and watch them blossom!

These are some of the core values I believe children should conquer on their journeys of self-discovery:

Help your child plant a garden this spring. If you have my book use it as a reference as you start to discuss the importance of growing their very own values in their life.

  •             Maintenance and Care

Enjoy this springtime activity and share your stories!

Show-and-Tell

Show-and-Tell was originally designed to allow children an opportunity to speak publicly. This childhood activity can be socially rewarding and academically stimulating while building vocabulary and self-expression. It is fun for the children and builds self-confidence.

“Planting My Values” is a story of a young boy’s search for establishing roadmarks of right and wrong, good and bad. Written in narrative verse, “Planting My Values” calms and reassures a young reader’s doubts with faith in goodness, and encouraging acts of kindness and deeds of honesty to grow. Manners, empathy, integrity, thoughtfulness, respect, being responsible, loyal, showing gratitude and courage – these are all values that are demonstrated and defined, in child behavioral terms. The boy is encouraged to tend a garden of positive values as he grows “values that help me to judge and decide. Each day I can choose any value I need. My actions grow bigger and better, indeed!” Even more inspiring are the words that follow: “I will know in my head. I will know in my heart. I will make good choices. I will know how to start. I will make some new friends! I will hold open doors! I won’t exclude anyone! I will do my chores!” This is the way, the boy learns, to encourage good values to blossom in his heart. “Planting My Values” is an inspirational book for school age readers.

The Importance of Values

As parents we influence many aspects of our children’s lives.  Our own moral values shape what we want our children to believe in and adopt in their own lives.

A strong moral compass will be the foundation for good decision making as our little ones enter adolescence.

In Planting My Values I talk about some of the values that I believe children should conquer on their journeys of self-discovery.

What values do you want to instill in your children?

A little about myself…

I want to share my background so you can get to know me better.  I went to business school and received an MBA from the University of Minnesota.  I worked for Apple Computer for 10 years. Then I had children – four within six years.  Life got extremely busy.

My new job was raising my children.  No corporate job can prepare you for this! I took the skills I learned from business school and became the CEO of a family of six!

Along with this was my desire to instill a strong foundation for my children. As much as we want to give we want our children to have a solid foundation throughout life. We want them to contribute in a responsible manner.

Whether our children are 5 or 15 we want them to make good decisions, learn from their mistakes and become better citizens of our world.

Planting My Values will help our young ones as they begin their self discovery and journey to being the best they can be!

The magic and motivation behind writing “Planting My Values.”

When my four children were young I loved reading picture books to them and frequently volunteered in their classrooms to read for story time. Those brief moments were magical and fleeting. As a teacher or parent we savor those sweet smiles, wiggles and giggles, big yawns and inquisitive faces.

Those motherly moments resonated strongly and I wanted to write my own stories as a way of giving back to my community.  Raising children is one of the hardest jobs in the world.  Instilling a strong moral compass in our children is the cornerstone to raising responsible young adults. It takes dedication, motivation and a little magic!

I penned my notes early on but life got busy.  Last year I felt compelled to finish what I had started so long ago as a legacy to my own mother.

Join me in my journey! There is much more to come.
